JAKARTA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidinreceived Indonesia’s highest award in recognition of his role and contribution in strengthening relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
The presentation of the Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna byPresident Susilo Bambang Yudho-yono took place at the Bilateral Hall of Istana Merdeka yesterday.
The ceremony was witnessed by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Indonesia’s Cabinet ministers and the Malaysian delegation accompanying Tuanku Mizan on his visit to the republic.
This was the first time the award was conferred on Malaysia’s King.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been bestowed the same award.
Tuanku Mizan, who arrived yesterday for a two-day official visit to the republic, was given an official welcome by the Indonesian Government at Istana Merdeka.
A 19-gun salute was fired after the King took the salute from the guard-of-honour comprising 60 members of the Presidential Security Force.
After being introduced to Cabinet ministers and senior government officials, the King and Queen made a courtesy call on Susilo and his wife. — Bernama
