JOHOR BARU: A mother is appealing to the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of her 16-year-old son who she believes may have been murdered.
The boy's body was discovered by a passer-by in front of a temple in Stulang Laut here on Oct 10.
Police believe his death was due to a car accident.
The victim's mother, Yeak Fang, 44, said she decided to check the CCTV footage at a cyber cafe in Tampoi Indah where her son worked part-time.
“From the footage, we saw three youths enter the premises at about 4.20am on Oct 10 and started speaking to my son who was sitting at the counter.
“They spoke to him for a few minutes and suddenly dragged him out and started beating him before pushing him into a car,” she told a press conference organised by Gelang Patah MP Tan Ah Eng here yesterday.
Yeak explained that prior to viewing the CCTV footage and being informed by the police, she had heard her son's friend say that he was abducted.
“I tried calling his handphone many times but whenever I called, he didn't reply but would instead call his sister repeatedly,” she said, adding that he answered only twice.
Yeak said that the next day she received a shock when she recognised her son's shoes and T-shirt from a picture accompanying an article about a body found near a temple.
“After viewing the CCTV footage, I do not believe that my son died in an accident and hope that the police will conduct a thorough investigation so that our family can find closure,” she said.
Meanwhile, Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob said that the police had reclassified the case under Section 363 of the Penal Code for abduction after viewing the footage.
Asst Comm Zainuddin also said that the case would be referred to the Johor Baru (North) police station for investigation as the victim was allegedly abducted in Tampoi Indah.
Tan urged those with information or witnesses to come forward to aid in the investigation so that the case can be solved soon.
