JOHOR BARU: The death of a 16-year-old boy has been reclassified as murder following evidence from a closed-circuit TV footage.
A passer-by had found Soh Tian Ci’s body in front of a temple in Stulang Laut here on Oct 10 and the police had initially ruled that his death was due to a car accident.
However, the case has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder following the CCTV footage that showed the boy being dragged out from his work place by several youths on the day of his death.
The victim’s mother Yeak Fang (pic), 44, said she decided to check the CCTV footage at a cyber cafe in Tampoi Indah where her son was working part-time.
“From the footage, we saw three youths entering the premises at about 4.20am on Oct 10 and started speaking to Soh who was sitting at the counter,” she said yesterday.
“When my son’s friends viewed the footage, they instantly recognised one of the youths, aged about 18,” said Yeak, a mother of three.
She has since provided to the police the name and address of the youth seen in the CCTV footage.
“It has been six days since my son’s body was found. Although we miss him dearly, we are eager for the culprits to be caught,” she said, adding that Soh was a shy and quiet boy who seldom talked about his friends.
Yeak alleged that two years ago, the same youth had abducted her elder son and left him at Stulang Laut after realising they had nabbed the wrong person.
Acting Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Che Yussoff Ngah said they had set up a task force to investigate Soh’s death. He urged those with information to contact the Johor police hotline at 07-2212999 or visit the nearest police station.
