KUALA LUMPUR: Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd (RapidKL) has added another 150 buses to its fleet with improved features for the disabled in a bid to increase the efficiency of its public transport service.
The buses, which are assembled locally, are equipped with several features.
The most notable features are for the disabled friendly where the buses are designed with reserved areas for wheelchair-bound passengers including safety seat belts, door safety lights and emergency window panes.
The buses come with an Audio Visual Display System, which provides information for the deaf while a speaker announcement system is available to notify the visually impaired of incoming stops.
These new additions to the RapidKL fleet would also have standard features such as special bells, designated seats for pregnant women, the elderly and people with minors.
RapidKL is a subsidiary of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana).
Its Infrastructure Development Division group director Nor Hassan Ismailsaid the most recent addition of the 150 buses are part of its contributions towards fulfilling the goals of the GTP’s Urban Public Transport NKRA. In total, 470 new buses, which are also disabled friendly, will be deployed on the roads by the end of this year as part of the target set.
RapidKL Bus Division group director Datuk Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain said the increase of buses would increase the frequency of bus arrivals at stops, effectively reducing waiting times from 20 minutes down to 15 on selected routes.
