Empire mall to reopen in 30 days

SUBANG JAYA: The Empire Shopping Gallery will reopen to the public in 30 days while the Empire Hotel and 12-storey office tower will resume operations by Oct 15.
The complex, which was partly damaged in a gas explosion on Wednesday morning, is currently undergoing round-the-clock repairs.
The Energy Commission said the actual cause of the explosion was still under investigation and could take up to three months to determine.
“We will have to inspect the gas meters from every outlet to check for abnormalities in the readings.
“Then we will be able to pinpoint the source,” said spokesman Roslee Esman during a press conference with the mall and hotel management here yesterday.
He said action would be taken against those responsible once the cause of the explosion is determined.
“For now we do not want to point fingers at any contractors or tenants. We just want to find out what actually happened,” added Roslee.
The gas explosion at 3.45am on Wednesday damaged part of the complex and also tore into the adjoining office block and studio apartments.
Four people were injured. About 300 people were rescued and evacuated, including some 170 hotel guests who were relocated to nearby hotels.
Several windows as high up as the eighth floor of the office tower were also shattered.
The mall's management, Mam-moth Empire Holdings Sdn Bhd, said they were working with the authorities to ensure the structure was completely safe before it was reopened.
“We will only reopen once we have ensured the absolute safety of the complex,” said its managing director Datuk Sean Ng.
Empire Hotel group general manager Ho Ricky said they would reopen by Oct 15 as the damage to the hotel had been minimal.
“Once all the utilities are re-connected and the rooms and other areas are cleaned, we will be able to resume operations,” he said.
