He said the rakyat deserved to know whether the coalition would practise hudud law if it were to rule the country.
”Gag order or not, the coalition must make its stand known to the people before the general election,” he told reporters after chairing the party’s central committee meeting here yesterday.
He compared it with the gag order by the Selangor government on the raid at Damansara Utama Methodist Church, saying that the people still did not know the truth about it.
“For a coalition which always talks about transparency, accountability and freedom of expression, issuing a gag order will definitely not resolve these outstanding issues.”
He also said the party would like to express its gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving an assurance that it would not practise hudud as Malaysia was a multi-racial society.
On Twitter yesterday, Dr Chua also challenged the Pakatan to firmly state its stand on hudud instead of deciding to keep mum until its meeting today.
“PR shd not solve problem easily by issuing gag order. What’s your stand on hudud?
“Don’t hide behind gag order,” he tweeted at 6.30pm.
He also tweeted about the gag order by the Selangor government over the church raid by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department.
“Gag order. OMG, we shd not forget the Damansara Church case that the gag order is still on,” he wrote.
The gag order, issued by Mentri Besar
Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim last month, prohibited all state executive councillors from commenting on the issue until a decision is made.
On another matter, Dr Chua said Chief
Minister Lim Guan Eng could not take sole credit for the investments in Penang as investors would look at social security, basic infrastructure and incentives provided by the Federal Government before putting in their investments.
“When a state succeeds in attracting investments, it is all due to the social security, incentives and basic infrastructure provided by the Fede-ral Government.
“The state government is only playing the facilitating role.”
In another development, Dr Chua said the party welcomed the Com-munity Chest charity foundation’s effort in providing financial assistance to vernacular and mission schools in the country.
However, he said the party hoped the Government would continue to provide aid to these schools despite the setting up of the foundation.
